Since 1991, the Mexican Gold Libertad has been struck in spurts. The Mexican Mint produced the coins from 1991 to 1994, again in 2000, and now in each year since 2002. The highest mintage year in program history remains, by far, 1981. There were 596,000 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertads struck in that first year, while the lowest production year came in 2003 when just 500 coins were produced.
