The Mexican War of Independence officially began on September 16, 1810, with Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s call to arms. The conflict lasted for over a decade, with significant battles and skirmishes occurring across Mexico. It culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Córdoba on August 24, 1821, which recognized Mexico’s independence from Spain.

All 2010 200 Peso Mexican Gold Coins offered here come with protective plastic flips. These coins were issued to honor the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s war of independence. The coins were produced with the same size and gold composition as the historic 50 Peso Gold Coins, such as the 1921 Centenarios.

On the obverse of 2010 Mexican Gold Coins, you will find the image of the classic Mexican coat of arms. The design shows a golden eagle on the perch of a prickly pear cactus as it battles with a serpent in its beak and talons. Below, there is a wreath of oak and laurel.

The reverse side of 2010 200 Peso Gold Coins comes with a depiction of Winged Victory. This design shows Victory in a slight right-profile relief with a laurel crown held high in her right hand as her left clutches a set of broken chains. The crown represents self-governance while the broken chains represent freedom from oppression.
