When the Proof Gold Libertad Series was introduced in 1989, only one coin weight was issued and it was the only one that would be available until 2004. Following that 1989 issue of a 1/2 oz gold coin, the series resumed in 2004 with only a 1/4 oz gold coin offered. In 2005, 1 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold coins joined the collection.
Since 2005, the 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad has been available on an annual basis, with only the 2012 date mark missing. That particular year featured no coins from the mint.
