These coins are produced at the Mexican Mint. Established in 1535, it’s the oldest mint in the Americas. While most coins contain a face value, these don’t. However, they’re still backed by Banco de Mexico for their metal content. 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz weights were introduced in 1991 and have been a mainstay in the overall series ever since.
The obverse field of each 2023 Mexican Gold Libertad Coin displays the coat of arms of Mexico. This iconic image features a golden eagle grasping a rattlesnake in its beak and talons. The eagle is seen perched on a prickly pear cactus while decorative laurel leaves are tied together by a ribbon beneath it.
