The image of Winged Victory on the reverse of Mexican Libertads is based on the Angel of Independence on the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The Angel of Independence has been the site of numerous celebrations, parades, and gatherings throughout Mexican history. It is particularly important during national holidays such as Independence Day (September 16) and Revolution Day (November 20), where it becomes a focal point for patriotic festivities and ceremonies.
In the obverse design of the 2023 Proof Mexican Gold Libertad, you will find a depiction of the coat of arms of Mexico. The seal features a golden eagle in left-profile relief as it raises its wings and battles a serpent using its beak and talons. The eagle is perched on the arm of a prickly pear cactus with a wreath of oak and laurel beneath.
For the reverse field of 2023 1/10 oz Proof Gold Libertad, the Mexican Mint features the image of Winged Victory. This design is based on the Mexican Independence Victory Column and its statue of the Angel of Independence. The image shows the female allegory in slight-left-profile relief with a laurel wreath in one hand and broken chains in the other.
